Banda Comunale (Dresden)

EN Fortunately, the band performs as a substitute for Hochzeitskapelle. Founded as a protest band against Nazi marches in 2001, it was clear to Banda Comunale from the start that their musical repertoire had to embrace the world. Where angry citizens in Dresden culturally separate themselves, they sound clubs, streets and squares. With Serbian coceks, Colombian cumbias or Algerian rai. In September 2015, after days of xenophobic protests in front of the asylum shelter in Freital, the banda decides to go one step further. With refugee musicians, they expand their project to Banda Internationale. Suddenly there are no longer 10, but 20 people on stage. They play more than 400 concerts, receive many awards, record their new record Kimlik and fly to Burkina Faso, where they support the construction of a school. This intense time is captured in the documentary film „Wann wird es endlich wieder Sommer“ (2018). The highlight is a concert at the Brandenburg Gate on the 30th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall. In front of 100,000 people. After 20 years, the sound is more international than ever. Hundreds of concerts have turned the Banda into a sworn community that combines jazz arrangements with protest rap, oriental melancholy, grooving Afrobeat and Balkan sounds.

Import Export:  Evripidis and His Tragedies (Greece / Spain)

EN Evripidis and His Tragedies is the alter-ego of Evripidis Sabatis, a multi-disciplinary artist from Athens living in Barcelona. The „Tragedies“ are the devastating, confessional, self-sarcastic and often darkly humorous pop songs that draw on his classical piano training, queer sensibility and storytelling skills, to examine and ultimately own up to the vicissitudes of life. Evripidis‘ pop inclinations take us for a bumpy, dancey ride across the fine line between tragedy and joie de vivre. In 2021, Evripidis released his fifth album Neos Kosmos, combining his love of Doo Wop, Girl Groups, New Wave, Indie Pop and Bedroom Pop with richly textured electronic soundscapes, as well as a handful of singles and music videos.

Public Display of Affection (Berlin)

EN For the voyeur in all of us, P.D.O.A. (Public Display of Affection) have arrived. Conceived as a mixed media art project by Jesper Munk and performer Madeleine Rose (of dance theatre collective Das Gegenteil), the pair soon expanded to include Welsh film maker/punk prophet Lewis Lloyd (Plattenbau) and ‘real life’ Berliner Anton Remy (Baketown).Playing their part in keeping Germany’s capital weird, P.D.O.A.’s live shows hark back to the fearless eccentricity explored by the West Berlin performance art and music collectives of the 1980’s. Similarly determined in their indefinability the group entices their ogling audiences with a novel brew of punk wonk, dramatic duets and kinky jazz. Clearly attempts at description prove futile, producing nothin’ but a genre buzzword mush. Nevertheless, what P.D.O.A. guarantee is an act of near zen like non duality, hittin’ that golden ratio between the soulful and the sinful, the familiar and the far-out, the harmonious and the chaotic. So go on, take a peep!

DE Für den Voyeur in uns allen sind P.D.O.A. (Public Display of Affection) da. Also los, werft einen Blick durchs Schlüsselloch!
