Unser Sommer Festival ist zurück und erstrahlt dieses Jahr in neuem Gefieder. Inspiriert durch den Afrofuturisten Sun Ra, der sich Genregrenzen widersetzte, erwarten euch bei PHRE lokale und internationale Künstler:innen der experimentellen Popmusik und ein Festival hybrider Kulturen.

Embryo & The Cosmic Family (Muc)
[DE] Embryo ist ein einzigartiges Musikkollektiv aus München, welches Kraut Rock Jazz, freie Improvisation, inner und außereuropäische Rhythmen und Klänge verbindet wie kein Zweites. Embryo existiert seit 1969, übergreift Generationen, Genres und Grenzen. Ein internationales Kollektiv welches sich in einer stetigen Weiterentwicklung zu einem einzigartigen Musikprojekt entwickelt hat und bereits mit Mal Waldron, Okay Temiz, Fela Kuti, Charlie Mariano und vielen anderen spielte. Marja Burchard, Tochter des Gründers Christian Burchard, übernahm 2015 die Band in welcher sie aufwuchs. Seit dem lebt Embryo mit ihr weiter und sucht stets nach neuen Klängen, Rhythmen und Ideen anders denkender.
Für das Opening des Festivals bringen Embryo gleich mehrere Gäste mit – allesamt aus der lokalen Musikszene und doch kosmisch durchmischt.
[EN] Embryo is a unique music collective from Munich, Germany, combining Kraut Rock Jazz, free improvisation, inner and outer European rhythms and sounds like no other. Embryo exists since 1969, spanning generations, genres and borders. An international collective that has evolved into a unique musical project and has played with Mal Waldron, Okay Temiz, Fela Kuti, Charlie Mariano and many others. Marja Burchard, daughter of the founder Christian Burchard, took over the band in which she grew up in 2015. Since then Embryo lives on with her, always looking for new sounds, rhythms and ideas of different thinking.
For the opening of the festival Embryo brings several special guests – all of them from the local music scene from different musical backgrounds.

Monsieur Doumani (Cyprus)
[DE] Das mehrfach preisgekrönte Trio von der Insel Zypern beeindruckt seit rund zehn Jahren ihr Publikum weltweit mit Musik, die stark im östlichen Mittelmeer verwurzelt ist. Ihre Musik wurde ausgiebig in den internationalen Medien vorgestellt und bei meisten gefeierten Festivals wie ESNS, Womex, Womad, Sziget, Trans Musicales, Sukiyaki Meets the World, hat die Band schon gespielt. Während ihre Besetzung für ein Trio (Tzouras – kleine Bouzouki, Posaune, Akustikgitarre) ungewöhnlich klingen mag, verwenden Monsieur Doumani Elektronik, Effekte und Loop-Pedale, um sich in eine Welt zu wagen, die erfrischend und aufregend ist. Ihr viertes Album, das vom gefeierten Glitterbeat Records veröffentlicht wurde, treibt ihre charakteristischen mediterranen Klänge in eine tiefe psychedelische und avantgardistische Richtung. Ein tanzbarer Fiebersturm aus Saiteninstrumenten, vielschichtigem Gesang und posaunengetriebenen Bässen.
[EN] Hailing from the island of Cyprus, the multi-award winning trio has been impressing audiences worldwide for the last ten years or so with music strongly rooted in the Eastern Mediterranean. Their music has been extensively presented on worldwide media and they participated in the most celebrated festivals such as ESNS, Womex, Womad, Sziget, Trans Musicales, Sukiyaki Meets the World, to name only a few. While their lineup may sound unusual for a three-piece (tzouras – small bouzouki, trombone, acoustic guitar) Monsieur Doumani are using electronics, effects and loop pedals to venture into a world that is refreshing and exciting. Their fourth album released by the acclaimed Glitterbeat Records pushes their trademark Mediterranean sonics into a deep psychedelic and avant-folk direction. A danceable fever storm of stringed instruments, multi-layered singing and trombone-driven low end.
