Seem Festival

„There´s something unexpected cutting through the familiar static. A fragile moment. A sudden outburst. A deep connection. A /kry for freedom.“

Mona Matbou Riahi – Klarinette/fx

Philipp Kienberger – Bass/FX

Alexander Yannilos – Schlagzeug

[EN] The word „Seem“ in Farsi generally means wire. However, due to the ambivalent nature of the Persian language, it also means cable and string. Because of this multifaceted definition of this simple word, it is present in many aspects of life. As a cable, it appears as an indispensable part of any urban landscape; as a string, it acts as the main carrier of sound in instruments; and finally, as a wire, it is the main supplier of all electronic gadgets. In short, our festival is a call to respect the experimental sound around us, and in this sense it is the celebration of cable, string and wire at the same time. That is, it is the celebration of „Seem“. To this end, we have named our project „Seem|Festival“. The third night will feature two music bands, one from Munich and one from Vienna, and a improvisation session:

LBT

The band LBT plays live techno, but achieved purely acoustically on piano, bass and drums without computers or synthesizers. From lyrical to minimal, deep to industrial: the sound of LBT is multifaceted while being constantly pushed forward by a pulsing bass drum. Their music is a journey within, inviting dreams and ecstatic dancing alike. Having grown up on modern jazz, this trio takes its true love seriously: improvisation. One might hear delicate phrasing from the piano or its strings prepared with guitar picks, the bass bowed beautifully or nearly chopped to pieces, and the drums fully exhausted from fine rustling to mighty grooves.

Leo Betzl – Piano

Maximilian Hirning – Bass

Sebastian Wolfgruber – Drums

Kry

For the /Kry Trio from Vienna, nominated by the jury for the young talent program „The New Austrian Sound of Music (NASOM)“ 2023/2024, the goal is to capture the unexpected cutting through the familiar noise: „There’s something unexpected cutting through the familiar static. A fragile moment. A sudden outburst. A deep connection. A /cry for freedom.“ The trio’s creation and development took place behind closed doors, adding depth to their music.
