Witch ’n’ Monk
EN Witch ’n’ Monk is the twinning of nonconformist Colombian flautist Mauricio Velasierra and anarchic soprano and guitarist Heidi Heidelberg. The driving force of the duo is a shared commitment to depict the multiverse, through an un-compromised, new musical language of composition and improvisation that travels fluidly between forms. This multiverse is constructed with a collection of Latin American flutes radically manipulated with effects and extended techniques, anarchic soprano vocals that move seamlessly and suddenly between characters and timbres, analogue electronics and a jazz-punk guitar/bass hybrid. Each limb is called upon to create the sound of multiple dimensions being inhabited simultaneously, using a myriad of control pedals and labyrinthine signal paths to orchestrate live.

DE Witch ’n’ Monk ist das Duo des kolumbianischen Flötenrebellen Mauricio Velasierra und der britischen Sopranistin und Gitarristin Heidi Heidelberg. Durch die Kombination verschiedenster Instrumente – traditionelle lateinamerikanische Flöten, unkonventioneller Gesang, E-Gitarre und maßgeschneiderte Elektronik – kreieren sie einen Sound, der ganz und gar ihr eigener ist. Das Duo hat eine kompromisslose, neue musikalische Sprache aus Komposition und Improvisation entwickelt, die sich fließend zwischen den Formen bewegt. Radikal manipulierte Flöten, anarchischer Soprangesang und analoge Elektronik mischen sich mit einem Jazz-Punk-Gitarren-Bass-Hybrid.
EN Unravelling the Mind is a multi sensorial experience that uses cutting edge scientific ideas to pose the question: what is intelligence? The show introduces the audience to the problem solving abilities of slime mould, as well as the insight held by indigenous Amazonian plant experts into microbiology and ecology, provoking both wonderment and respect for nature. Using innovative live music by award-winning duo Witch ’n’ Monk inspired by the complex variety of rainforest; plants, moss and fruit, ‘Unravelling the Mind’ is an artistic response to the climate crisis, that provides a connection between science and the senses, leaving the audience with a new perspective on intelligent life, that places nature and the environment in the centre of our value system.
DE Unravelling the Mind ist ein multisensorisches Erlebnis, bei dem modernste wissenschaftliche Ideen genutzt werden, um die Frage zu stellen: Was ist Intelligenz? Die Show führt das Publikum in die Problemlösungsfähigkeiten von Schleimpilzen ein, aber auch in die Erkenntnisse einheimischer Pflanzenexperten aus dem Amazonasgebiet in Bezug auf Mikrobiologie und Ökologie, was sowohl Verwunderung als auch Respekt für die Natur hervorruft. Mit innovativer Live-Musik des preisgekrönten Duos Witch ’n‘ Monk, die vom komplexen System Regenwald inspiriert sind – Pflanzen, Moos und Früchte – ist „Unravelling the Mind“ eine künstlerische Antwort auf die Klimakrise, die eine Verbindung zwischen Wissenschaft und Sinnen herstellt und dem Publikum eine neue Perspektive auf intelligentes Leben vermittelt, die Natur und Umwelt in den Mittelpunkt unseres Wertesystems stellt.
